The Duty To Love

Old Testament: Joshua 23:1-24:33, Psalm 47:1-9, Proverbs 14;14

New Testament: Luke 13:23-35

Joshua 23:11 There are broad outlines of duty which are imposed upon all men (Mic. 6:8). The parable of the talents suggests to us that men's stewardship responsibilities differ. Paul mentions the "measure of faith" and the "proportion of faith" as if these were a measure of responsibility (Rom. 12:3,6). But the single common element in everyone's duty is to love God. Moses had earlier given this command (Deut. 6:5). And Jesus affirmed its validity for all time (Mark 12:29, 30). Fulfilling this command isn't burdensome, for ours is a God of love.
