In February, International Crusade Evangelist Steve Wingfield agreed to run a cross-denominational, evangelistic campaign which begins Sept. 15 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. This adds to the almost 50 Crusades,

called “Encounters,” that Wingfield has handled in the United States.

The meetings, called the “Cumberland Valley Steve Wingfield Encounter,” will be held from September 15-19 at 7:15 pm and will take place along Route 11, 3 miles north of Greencastle. The purpose of these meetings is “to benefit area residents through a closer walk with God, through a personal faith in Jesus Christ and to guide them into churches for regular Bible study and spiritual growth.”

Currently, about 150 churches of many different denominations are involved in the five day crusade meetings.

The Steve Wingfield Evangelistic Association has been working with many church and business leaders in the area representing 190 churches who are offering leadership on the Crusade's Executive Committee.

On Sept. 15, multiple Grammy and Dove award winners PETRA will appear. On Sept. 16, Gospel artists Billy & Sarah Gaines, on Sept. 17, the POWER TEAM, and on Sept. 18, Randy Travis, a country music superstar.

From 10 am to noon on Sept. 18, there will be a large children’s event called Kidz Jam with Psalty & Friends. From 1 pm-10 pm, there will be

activities primarily designed for area youth with PAX 217, King of Kings Skateboard Team, Battle of the Bands and sports activities.

In the evening of Sept. 18,, Superchic(k) and Supertones will appear and on Sun, Grammy and Dove winner Jaci Velasquez will appear. Steve Wingfield will speak at each event. All activities are free of charge and begin at 7:15

pm.

Around 1000 area residents have been volunteers for the Encounter. Volunteers include choir members, ushers, and prayer partners. Promotional materials have been made available to church representatives and others.

This year, there will be other “Encounters.” One is scheduled in early September in Fiji and another Nov. 17 – 21, 2004 in Salisbury, MD.
