Red Sox vs. Tigers Game 4 Preview

Detroit manager Jim Leyland dropped outfielder Austin Jackson in Game 4 from the starting spot to eight in the order, making Torii Hunter the lead and Miguel Cabrera hitting second, according to Associated Press.

''We scored one run and no runs in two of the games,'' Leyland said. ''We're going to take a shot. If nothing else, when guys look at the lineup card they kind of look at it a little bit. And maybe it wakes you up a little bit. Not that they've been sleeping, they've been great games. Just a little something to, you know, churn up the butter a little bit.''

Jackson was 3 for 33 with 18 strikeouts in this year's postseason, and he has always batted in the leadoff, according to Stats. This change in lineup reflected the management's determination to reinforce the pressure to perform.

In Game 3, John Lackey out threw Tigers' star pitcher Justin Verlander, and Boston's defense stopped Detroit's hitters, lifting the Red Sox over Tigers 1-0 Tuesday for a 2-1 lead in the ALCS.

Mike Napoli hit a home-run off Verlander in the seventh inning, and Detroit failed to rally in the eight when Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder struck out with players on bases.

Game 4 begins with Jake Peavy starting for Red Sox against Doug Fister. The first three games of the series were characterized with intense and grueling matches, where Lackey and Verlander throwing pitches that shutout the majority of the batters.

Tonight's duel will heavily depend on the pitchers' ability to shutout the teams.
