No. 7-ranked Ohio State and No. 12 Clemson, two of the nation's most prolific offenses, were aiming for the national title, but Ohio lost their chance by losing 34-24 to Michigan State, and Clemson lost to Florida State 51-14.

Tigers averaged 45.1 points and 534.6 yards. Quarterback Tajh Boyd led the team with 29 touchdowns at 3,473 yards. Wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who was named a second-team All-American, led the ACC with 1,237 yards on 85 catches, had 10 touchdowns.

The Buckeyes will be without sophomore defensive end Noah Spence, who was suspended three games for violating a Big Ten rule. He contributed to the Ohio State's defense with eight sacks this season.
