Going into the second round playoffs, the Saints have a 12-5 stat while the Seahawks have a 13-3. While it appears that Drew Brees and the Saints holds an upper hand against the Seahawks in leading the league in pass yards and touchdowns, New Orleans must figure out a new approach against the No. 1 ranked defense, who completely sealed off their offenses in Week 13 'Monday Night Football' in a 34-7 loss. Many have since touted the Seahawks as the SuperBowl contender.

While the Saints have the most explosive offenses in the league, they were unable to muster any strength against the Seahawks defense that yielded an average of 14.4 points, 273.6 yards and 172 pass yards.

On offense, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson forms a powerful combination of pass and power-running duo, where Wilson has put down 26 touchdowns and 3,357 pass yards and running back Marshawn Lynch has 12 rush touchdowns at 1,257 rush yards. Their rush offense is ranked No. 4 in the league (136.8 rush yards a game).

Analysts report that Seahawks relies on simplicity and physical dominance in their defense attempts. They are able to create consistent pressure through three-and four-man rushes without sending extra rushers towards the pocket. This allows their defense to cover the offenses entirely with seven to eight defenders stopping all pass plays.

In Week 13, Seahawks' front line and back end created an airtight coverage and they held the Saints to just 188 yards of offense - Brees lowest output in recent years. They pressured the Saints receivers to work hard just to get open and hindered Brees from making the easy throws to stay on pace.

With the brutal loss in Week 13 as a lesson, Sean Payton and his staff will drastically change the passing games and apply tactics that opponents have used to successfully move the ball against Seattle. As in the case with San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals, both teams have controlled the tempo of the game in their respective wins over Seattle through persistent power-running approaches.

If the Saints want to have a chance of winning, their top rusher Mark Ingram need to boost the attempts of making power-plays that can open up the pressure placed on Brees.
