Pro-life leaders are looking to expand their voices on protecting the unborn on a national level, and now a Georgia-based organization is joining the movement. Georgia Right to Life (GRTL), a pro-life advocacy organization has joined the pro-life fight to sign a new "Declaration of Dependence" legislation.

The "Declaration of Dependence" is a form of personhood declaration that seeks to protect unborn babies and properly define the meaning person and being. President of the GRTL, Dan Becker, has joined other pro-life leaders in the same fight to sign the decree of personhood. Some leaders that are signing this document include talk show host Steve Deace, Thomas Glessner of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) and Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"This document reaffirms that personhood is the policy objective of our movement," said Becker of the declaration. "It's time for all pro-life supporters to get back to first principles, the principles our nation and our pro-life movement was founded upon."

The movement taking place in Georgia reignited in the 2012 elections when a majority ruling of 66% of Republican voters in the state voted for a Personhood Amendment in the state's Constitution. The proposed Personhood Amendment has the objective to protect all unborn human life from abortion or "natural death."

While the GRTL's goal for a Personhood Declaration in Georgia remains an important mission, for now Becker and the advocacy group hope that the signing of the "Declaration of Dependence" can move to the grand national scale. "Signing this document affirms that our mission is based on the word of God," said Becker. "Our goal is constitutionally protecting all innocent human life regardless of a person's manner of conception."

The fight for the pro-life cause on behalf of GRTL began in the 1970s as a response to Roe vs. Wade and have established their advocacy foundation since.Their mission for the cause includes taking political action and educating the public on their goals to protect unborn infants. Their own Personhood Amendment for the State of Georgia is available on their website to sign. GRTL hopes to send the Georgia legislation signed forms to approve the Amendment.

Becker and GRTL will continue to fight for pro-life in their state, as well as join the "Declaration of Dependence" movement nationwide. "While the goal is amending the U.S. Constitution, several states, including Georgia, are attempting to establish personhood protection in their state constitutions."
