The Flyers are known to break the rules, provoking, inciting, and pestering their opponents. Only eight NHL teams were penalized fewer minutes this season. It is expected that Flyers will attempt to intimidate physically or mentally the Rangers.

In response, the Rangers, who have matched the intensity, but not the penalty minutes, will try their best to maintain a cool head as they receive the visiting Flyers.

The Flyers will enter the playoff without their starting goaltender Steve Mason, who will be out for Game 1 due to an upper-body injury. Ray Emery will replace him as starter.

The Rangers' forward Derick Brassard who left practice early with back pain will be good to play on Thursday. Defenseman Ryan McDonagh, who missed the final five games of regular season with a shoulder injury, will return.

Flyers have not won at Madison Square Garden since Feb. 20, 2011. The players have expressed that they are focused on Game 1.

""We're going in there to win and it doesn't matter what happened the last three years or whatever," said veteran forward Vincent Lecavalier, the NHL.com reported. "It's a series. We'll take it one game at a time."

Meanwhile, Flyers captain Claude Giroux became NHL's third-most scorer after putting in three goals and four assists in the final four regular-season games, according to NHL.com.

The game will also be available on TV/Broadband/Mobile through NHL GameCenter Live, a subscription service offering streaming video of live out-of-market, regular season games, and on-demand replays.
