'Scandal' Season 4 Spoilers: Kerry Washington Shares Insight, Columbus Short Has No Hard Feelings

With ABC's 'Scandal' being renewed for Season 4, series' star Kerry Washington shared her thoughts on the show's current production status.

Season 3 ends with Washington's character, Olivia Pope, boarding a private jet after she quit her job. The American president suffers a meltdown at the Oval Office, and calls Pope on the phone. Olivia chooses not to answer, and calmly places her mobile phone in the cup-holder.

Talking to USA Today last Thursday, Washington revealed that the cast itself is also in the dark regarding the Season 4 plot.

"We don't have a script yet. I don't even know if that plane is going to Turks and Caicos or maybe it had engine trouble and is in right back in D.C. I don't know where she's going. It's pretty crazy," Washington admitted. "You can't thrive with this material unless you're willing to embrace the unknown. I'm type A, hyper prepared - it challenges me to surrender to these writers."

The next season of 'Scandal' will see the departure of series-regular Columbus Short, who starred as Harrison Wright. Short announced his departure from the show in April, after his wife claimed he threatened her with a knife.  The actor has since then been charged with misdemeanor spousal battery, and now faces a million-dollar lawsuit.

Last week, Short told Access Hollywood that he felt no resentment for losing his job.

"I think, at a certain point, when you're [hearing] a barrage of stories after stories, ABC justifiably would want to distance themselves," he said. "They [ABC] did the right thing."

Short also expressed his gratitude with colleagues from the set.

"They did not throw me to the curb like trash -- that's my family," Short explained. "They knew that I was going through a tough season and rallied around me and wrapped their arms around me, from Shonda to the craft service man. We're a family."

Even though the exact release date has not been confirmed, 'Scandal' Season 4 is returning to ABC this coming fall.

UPDATE: ABC recently announced that 'Scandal' Season 4 will premiere Thursday, Sept. 25 at 9pm EST.
