The Originals Season 2 trailer launched last week at the San Diego Comic-Con, revealing details regarding the future for The Vampire Diaries spinoff.

Viewers are introduced to Rebekah (Claire Holt) who tells baby Hope a bedtime story about a brave king at war with demons. It is implied that this king is Niklaus "Klaus" Mikaelson -- the show's protagonist and Hope's biological father. As Rebekah narrates, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is shown battling witches and werewolves in New Orleans.

Hope was conceived in the first season during a drunken tryst between Niklaus and Hayley. In the first season finale, Niklaus declares the baby dead in order to protect her from enemies. He then entrusts Hope to his sister Rebekah, who will be returning in the first three episodes.

Meanwhile, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) goes on a rampage and feeds on witches who threaten her baby. Klaus' brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies) starts expressing concern that Hayley is "falling apart".

Amidst these events, new enemies are coming to Niklaus' home in New Orleans. These include Kaleb (Daniel Sharman), a cunning male witch and shameless womanizer. In a scene from the trailer, he works his charm with Davina (Danielle Campbell) the witch.

It is also revealed that Klaus and Elijah's father and mother have arrived. This is not received as good news by either of the vampire brothers. After all, their father Mikael (Sebastian Roché) is the "vampire who hunts vampires", while their mother Esther is hell-bent on killing them.

"Well, there's only one question we need to ask, isn't there? Which of our parents do we kill first," Niklaus says matter-of-factly.

Esther's ghost possesses the body of Cassie (Natalie Dreyfuss), a young witch sacrificed in The Harvest flashback sequence. So, the ancient witch will have a much different appearance in the new season.

Season 2 of The Originals will premiere on CW network on Monday, Oct. 6 at 8pm ET. The complete first season DVD, BLU-Ray, and Digital HD set will arrive in stores on Sept. 2 of this year.
