Microsoft is giving a very special gift this month with three free games for Xbox Live Gold members: Worms Battlegrounds, The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief, and SSX.
This game giveaway is part of Microsoft's usual monthly offering of free games that started back in June of 2013 for all Xbox Live Gold members. Gold membership not only lets you grab some free games each month, but it also allows for enhanced online play through Xbox Live, discounts in the Xbox Live store, and more.
Worms Battlegrounds (Xbox One)
Available for download on December 1, Worms Battlegrounds is an artillery strategy game that follows gameplay from previous games in the Worms series. Set within a world history museum, you must set your worms to stop Lord Crowley-Mesmer, a worm out to take control of the museum.
Worms Battlegrounds lets you play around with 65 weapons, which is more than any other Worms game to date. This Xbox One version also uses the Xbox SmartGlass companion app to track stats.
The game was released on the Xbox One on May 30, 2014 and has scored a 72% on Metacritic.
The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief (Xbox 360)
Available from December 1st through the 15th on the 360, The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief is a crime adventure game that is best described as an interactive graphic novel. The game plays through three episodes to tell the story of an art thief named The Raven in 1960s Europe. You are immersed into both sides of the crime story to solve the mystery once and for all.
This free game includes Episode 1, but the other two episodes are purchaseable through the Xbox Live store for $9.99 each. Episode 1 focuses on a pursuit of The Raven that involves the theft of a legendary gem known as The Eye of the Sphinx. You'll need to watch for The Raven's signature black feathers and other clues to solve the puzzle of the gem's disappearance.
The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief was first released for the Xbox 360 in December of 2013.
SSX (Xbox 360)
SSX is an arcade classic snowboarding game that uses real courses in real NASA topographical maps of areas like the Himalayas and Antarctica instead of the ficticious ones found in previous installments of the SSX series. In fact, you can even use a Google Earth-inspired interface to navigate through nine real-world mountain ranges, each with multiple peaks and drops.
In the game, you compete in a World Tour of snowboarding competitions that allow you to beat your opponents with the best tricks and moves. It's a single-player game, but features an asynchronous multiplayer mode as well.
SSX also includes an extensive soundtrack with music by DJ Shadow, Kid Digital, The Prototypes, and more. It was first released on February 28, 2012 and currently sits at an 82% Metacritic score for the Xbox 360 version.
SSX will only be available for free from December 16th through the 31st.
