Destiny: Crota’s End Hard Mode Release Date for Xbox and PlayStation

For those of you who aren't familiar with Destiny, it is a futuristic online first-person shooter game developed by Halo creator Bungie and published by Activision. The game takes place in a sci-fi open-world setting that boasts an unpredictably "alive" universe where artificial intelligence and other online players can combine to make a unique experience.  A recent update brought a new element to the game called Crota's End, and it will soon be getting a hard mode, which will also bring to Destiny's Xbox and Playstation players the chance for some new loot including weapons, ship upgrades, and more.

A few months ago, we reported that there was an update that prepared for The Dark Below Expansion, and part of that expansion was a raid known as Crota's End.  A report from the Bungie Weekly has stated that a Hard Mode for Crota's End is ready.  They also report that "the first Fireteam to sink their teeth (and their sword) into the final boss (and by opposing, end him) will set the pace".

According to VG 24/7, the Crota's End hard mode will launch on January 21st, on or just after 10 AM PST, and it will raise the difficulty level to 33.  The new level of difficulty is important because, as the Inquisitr reports, Playstation and Xbox owners have found all kinds of shortcuts, glitches, and strategies to bring the Crota down in record time.

There doesn't seem to be much details about this Hard Mode of Crota's End from Bungie, but there will be "fewer options for healing yourself, and each other" and "the enemies you're about to face are stronger and more prone to temper tantrums".

With the upgrade to hard mode will comes some new loot (like from the infamous and recently closed loot cave) when Crota is beaten which include weapons, ship upgrades, a special shader, and something very special that I will explain later.  The four new weapons upgrades have the potential to reach a Maximum Attack of 331, and include names like the "Abyss Defiant" auto rifle, the "Fang of Ir Yut" scout rifle, the "Oversoul Edit" pulse rifle, as well as the "Word of Cota" hand cannon.  The ship mode will be called the "Bane of the Dark Gods", and that is what you will see in the illustration to this article, in orbit over its port of origin.  The shader is a hard mode exclusive color palette for your gear called Glowhoo.

As for the special item, Destiny players will be able to obtain the "Crux of Crota", the final item that is needed to upgrade to the Legendary "Eidolon Ally" auto rifle to the Exotic "Necrochasm".  I'm certain that all hard-core, diehard Destiny players know exactly what that means.

As stated before, the Hard Mode for Density's Crota's End will begin on January 21st.  Just before that, there will be update 1.1.0.4, to set the table.  These Patch Notes will be published when it's available for download.
