NBA 2K15 online servers may stay alive longer, while the recent Patch 4 update resolves a number of bugs for the game on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

"We are extending the support of all NBA 2K servers from 18 to 27 months following each release, giving our players more time to experience and enjoy the highest rated NBA simulation video game franchise," a 2K representative wrote to Polygon.

"The opinions of our community continue to have a positive impact on our business decisions as we strive to create the best possible experience for all of our fans."

Theoretically, this means NBA 2K15's online server may stay active anywhere between Fall 2016 and Summer 2017. This recent decision is a reversal of 2K Games planned shutdown for the online element of the older NBA 2K14 title. Reddit and Twitter had earlier exploded with complaints after fans were surprised to find that their online career saves had been lost.

Prior to shutting down NBA 2K14 on March 31, the company had promised that online files would not be converted to offline saves. Those who lost their game saves had to start their career all over again from scratch. One common complaint from NBA 2K players is that online and offline game saves are nearly indistinguishable. The usual result is that players lose their career when 2K Games pull the plug on the older game title.

The NBA 2K series has long been lauded for its realistic simulation of an actual National Basketball Association (NBA) career. This is accessible through the game's career mode, which can be played both in single-player and in multiplayer. After creating a custom avatar, player will be responsible for guiding that character through his career in the NBA. Along the way, players can customize their avatars with accessories including shoes and clothes.

Starting with NBA 2K14, the career mode had cutscenes that added a role-playing element to the gaming experience. This feature was also included with NBA 2K15.

Meanwhile, NBA 2K15 received the Patch 4 update on April 1. The update fixes a number of annoying bugs that include "auto-hesitation" dibble animations that appeared when driving near defenders. Realism has been improved with the smoothing of the sprint-to-jog transition. Patch 4 also fixes an issue where some players could not access specific Online Leagues. As 2K Games confirmed, all patch fixes will work on preexisting game mode saves.

A full explanation and list of fixes for the Patch 4 update can be found on the official NBA 2K Facebook page.
