Grey's Anatomy will have another run as ABC network confirmed on May 8 that the hugely popular medical drama series will be one of the more than 20 shows that will be renewed for another season. Indeed, Grey's Anatomy Season 12 will air this fall, reports said.

In the April 23 episode of Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Derek Shepherd, aka McDreamy and played by Patrick Dempsey, was killed off in the show.

In the final episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 11, Meredith Grey was seen trying to survive after the death of McDreamy with the help of friends and family at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Early reports speculated that Meredith might battle with Alzheimer's in the upcoming Season 12, said IBTimes. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), the daughter of a very famous cardio surgeon, Ellis Grey, and a medical intern in one of the best hospitals in Seattle, plays a central role in Grey's Anatomy.

Fans of the mega popular TV series should also expect more break ups in relationship in the next season of Grey's Anatomy. In Season 11, Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) were seen having problems with their marriage. Jackson was heard giving April an ultimatum in the season finale, an indication that things may not work out well for the couple in Season 12.

But Drew told Entertainment Weekly that her character April and Jackson are on the precipice. April's choice will be revealed in the coming Grey's Anatomy episodes, Drew said.

"We haven't actually broken up," the actress said, We're left on the precipice. He's given me an ultimatum that gives us room to figure out what's going to happen next season. I think this is the first of many conversations. I don't see it as a total breakup, I see it as they're definitely in a really, really rough situation. I don't think that it's the nail on the coffin for them. He says if you go, we're done, but April still has to make a choice, so that's where-I guess-we'll pick up next season, but [Shonda Rhimes] could make a different choice."

Could there be a marriage in Season 12 between Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington)? Alex and Jo have decided to take their relationship to the next level when bought an apartment in Season 12. Let's see how their story unfolds in Grey's Anatomy Season 12.

Meanwhile, more than 100,000 have signed a petition at Change.org to demand the return of  Dempsey in Grey's Anatomy. Since joining the drama series in 2005, Dempsey has became a household name and is one of the show's top draws.

He told EW in April that he wanted to try other things outside of Grey's Anatomy.  "I want to try something different. But will I be allowed to do something different? Is Derek so identifiable that I can't go on and be someone else? That will be the challenge. To see if people embrace me as someone else."

EW reported that the 49-year-old  Dempsey is making the rounds in the TV industry looking for a new job. The report quoted a TV executive as saying, "It's very normal for an actor who has been on a show for a long time to take meetings, to get reacquainted with other studios and network execs. It's just what you do. You never know when that dream project is gonna fall in your lap."

The executive added he was looking forward to sitting down with the former star of Grey's Anatomy.

One network casting executive also commented about Dempsey's job hunting, "Not too late at all. I can definitely see him ending up on something in the fall." There you go McDreamy fans.
