Season 4 of the political drama series House of Cards will have a full-blown political theme after the much-publicized breakup between U.S. President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and First Lady Claire Underwood (Robin Wright).

Series creator Beau Willimon said the decision to end the marriage between Frank and Claire was carefully deliberated by the show's producer, and added Season 4 will focus on how the breakup will play out, said Master Herald.

It is interesting to note that Season 4 will air sometime in February 2016 coinciding to the U.S. presidential elections next year.

Willimon hinted that in Season 3 of the popular series, Claire has gone tired being a mere First Lady and wants a place in the Oval Office where her husband Frank, is currently sitting on.

Claire Underwood for President

With the next House of Cards season starting off with the divorce of Frank and Claire Underwood, the former First Lady is seen to challenger her husband who is seeking his second term as president of the most powerful nation in the world, reported Ecumenical News.

Fans would surely get excited if the next House of Cards season will focus on "Claire Underwood for President" team as her supporters want her to pursue her dreams, which she cannot do with Frank still in the White House.

Frank's sincerity will also be tested in the upcoming season. Will he try to win back his wife in an honest effort to rekindle their relationship or will it be a desperate attempt to thwart Claire's ambition and stop his eventual downfall?

Another big question is can Frank function well without Claire by his side even if he has Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) as his ally?

"A lot of the strength of the show is based on the strength of that marriage. But as soon as we began to explore that, we realized there was no turning back," Willimon told the Hollywood Reporter. "We also realized we'd laid the groundwork in the previous two seasons for this conflict between Francis and Claire, and the more we began exploring it, the more inevitable it became. And the more exciting it was for us to travel that emotional terrain."

But Doug said Frank would not be completely handicapped in Season 4 and his eventual showdown with his ex-wife. Frank can use Kelly for his dirty works, he said.

Doug  told the magazine, "He's obviously far more efficient with Doug by his side. I can only hope that next season it'll bring more of a 'let's get some shit done.' "

Season 4 of "House of Cards" will premiere in the spring of 2016.
