The third installment of Marvel's Star-Spangled Avenger's series is currently underway with Captain America: Civil War planned for release on May 6, 2016.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Captain American leads the new team of Avengers in protecting the human race from all forms of threats. The third film also features several heroes and villains it is easy to confuse it for another Avengers movie.

After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War is a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron and the thirteenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while also being the first installment of Phase Three.

Phase Three is set during a time of discord generated from the aftermath of Ultron's attack against the Earth. With public opinion of superheroes becoming increasingly divided, the Avengers become fragmented. In the midst of the Avengers' turmoil, a number of new characters are introduced, such as Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Captain Marvel. Thanos' plot to collect all of the Infinity Stones, which began late in Phase One, is drawn to a close in this saga.

When the government forges an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity and proposed the Superhuman Registration Act that requires superheroes to register with the government Captain America and Iron Man form polarizing factions based on their opinions toward the idea, resulting in the two heroes coming to blows, with Iron Man supporting the Act and Captain American opposing it.

To keep track of the characters in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, IGN has put a gallery of familiar and new faces that have confirmed to be appearing and those expected to make an appearance in the new movie, as well as which side they will fight with.
