Android 5.1 Lollipop Update for LG G4, G3, G2; Android 5.1.1 and Android M Release Date Rumors

Android Lollipop updates are already available on a variety of LG devices including the G3, G2 and G4. In the sections below, we will look at the current Android situation for the said devices. The latest version of Android Lollipop is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

LG G4

Right out of the box, the LG G4 comes installed with Android 5.1 Lollipop. LG has not formally announced when Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is rolling out to the LG G4. Tech observers remain divided over whether LG plans to update their newest flagship to latest Android Lollipop firmware.

GottaBeMobile is optimistic that the LG G4 will get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop sometime later this year. The publication also pointed out that LG's competitor Samsung has already upgraded the Galaxy S6 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

However, Android Origin remains skeptical - stating that LG has a history of skipping entire Lollipop updates. Instead, it believes that LG will skip toward the next-gen Android M operating system, which was introduced earlier this year.

LG G3

Considering that the G3 was just released last year, LG will still be supporting the device with firmware updates. Like the G4, it is not certain when the LG G3 will get the next Android update.

According to a Phone Arena report from last month, LG may not be planning to update the G3 device to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. For now, the LG G3 is running on the older Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system.

LG G2

Earlier in July, GSMArena reported that the LG G2 will receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in the future. The information allegedly came from an anonymous LG employee. Release date details were not given, even though the source reported that the update will be ready in two months.

It remains to be seen whether this prediction comes true, considering that the newer G3 and G4 are rumored to be not receiving Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Is LG Holding Out for Android M?

Various unconfirmed internet rumors suggest that LG may be holding back the G3 and G2 for Android M, which is said to be coming out later this year. This seems likely because Google will release the all-new Android update sometime later in 2015.
