Sony has some big news in store for next week. The company has recently revealed that it would make an announcement on August 3. However, it is unclear whether that will be for a new smartphone or something else entirely. According to plenty of rumors circulating online, it will most likely be the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Release Date

A teaser shared by Sony Xperia's official Twitter account suggested that the Japan-based device maker might announce a new Xperia model next week. The tweet is light on details but it included the hashtag "Xperia" so the general consensus is that it was made in reference to the unannounced Sony Xperia C5 Ultra.

As per the tweet, Sony hinted that the device can capture images in a "split-second" which may indicate a new type of autofocus method or an improvement to shutter speed and sensor sensitivity. The tweet is accompanied by a photo (seen above) and stated "Focus closely now, a new way to capture split-second photos is coming. 03.08.15 #Xperia".

Moreover, photo of a purported C5 Ultra user manual recently surfaced online hinting that the handset will indeed come very soon. The device is reportedly developed under the codename "Lavender."

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Specs to Expect

Earlier this week, French serial leakster NoWhereElse posted a picture of the front-face of a mysterious Sony handset which the site claims to be the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra. Previous reports indicated that the device will be powered by a 64-bit, octa-core MediaTek MT6752 chipset coupled with 2GB RAM.

With a Full HD 1080p display that measures 5.5 inches diagonally, the upcoming model is seen to bridge the gap between the company's high-end phones and its present mid-rangers. Leaked photos showed that the screen will have an edge-to-edge, bezel free design. It is expected to come with two 13-megapixel cameras, one at the back and one at the front which is line to the consumer electronics giant's focus on mobile photography. A Sony IMX230 camera sensor, already present on the newly released Motorola Moto X Style/Pure Edition, is also rumored to be integrated in the upcoming Xperia device.

At the moment, we have been hearing about two models supposedly in the works within Sony's labs. One of them is the C5 Ultra and the other is the Sony Xperia Z5, the company's next generation flagship for 2015. The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra sounds like a remarkable mid-range device, so hopefully that is what Sony has planned to reveal on August 3.
