Heads up, StarCraft 2 fans-the third and last expansion to Blizzard Entertainment's popular real-time strategy game, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, will arrive really soon. According to Activision Blizzard's latest financial report, the expansion pack is set to be released before 2015 ends.

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void Coming This Year

On Tuesday, Activision Blizzard, Inc. has publicized its second quarter earnings report. Gamers typically just ignore these kinds of announcements as it mostly reveal details on the business side of games. However, there are those who still tune in because sometimes these reports may also reveal hints of future game plans.

This time, that strategy did not disappoint. The game's developer and publisher has unexpectedly disclosed that the much anticipated StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void expansion will finally come to gaming consoles this year.

In its press release, Activision Blizzard mentioned, "Legacy of the Void will be a standalone product that won't require any prior releases, so it will be easier than ever for players to get into the game and experience all of the latest content. It is expected to be released in 2015."

However, aside from the launch window being pegged before 2015 ends, no actual release date for StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void was mentioned in the earnings call.

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void Pre-Order

Blizzard Entertainment's final StarCraft 2 franchise was made available for pre-purchase last month. Those who will order the game early will be entitled to an immediate access to its ongoing beta version. Access to Legacy of the Void's three-mission prologue called "Whispers of Oblivion" will also be given to gamers who will pre-order.

We learned from the earnings report that Activision Blizzard enjoyed higher revenues than expected for the second quarter of fiscal year 2015. Of the firm's over $1 billion USD revenue, more than half or 55% was collected from digital channels, which is a record for the game developer and publisher's second quarter. It was also mentioned that Blizzard expects the release of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void will help increase the company's profit.

Although no exact date was mentioned, gamers eagerly waiting for the end of the StarCraft II story may not have to wait much longer. It is believed that more details about StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void will be shared by Blizzard once it takes the stage at the ongoing Gamescom trade fair or during the BlizzCon event on November.
