Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL Release Date and Specs: 'Microsoft's Crown Jewel Devices'

With the free release of Windows 10, Microsoft had better do something great again, and fast.  As it so happens, the release of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL could be it.  The smartphone business is going to kick into high gear before the holiday season as both Apple and Microsoft will be unveiling their latest models, and this is what is known about the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL Release Dates.

Neurogadget calls these two Lumia devices as "Microsoft's crown jewel devices".  This is what is rumored about them, so far.

The Lumia 950 plans on having a 5.2 WQHD (1440 x 2560) OLED display, with the inside being a Snapdragon 808 and 64-bit Hexa core.  It should have about 3GB of RAM, and it will have a 32 GB variant.  As for the cameras, we're looking at a 20 Megapixel PureView on the rear and a 5 Megapixel camera on the front.  The battery will have a 3000 mAh detachable one, and it will also have a USB Type-C charging port as well as Qi wireless charging.  All of this in a matte white look with a black polycarbonate chassis.

As for the Lumia 950 XL it has the same type of OLED display wit 1440 x 2560 resolution, but it will be much larger at 5.7 inches.  The inside will be powered by a Snapdragon 810 with an identical 32 GB storage option and 3 GB of RAM.  It will have the same 20 Megapixels for the rear camera as the Lumia 950, but it will have a triple LED flash.  I'll assuming that the front-facing camera has the same specs at 5 Megapixels.  The battery has a bit more mAh at 3300, and it is removable with the USB Type-C charging port and Qi Wireless charging.

Of course, what is really creating quite a buzz is that this will be full Windows 10 phones.  Most people are pointing to a big event on October 19th that will not only reveal the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL, but other devices like the Surface Pro 4, and the Microsoft Band 2, according to Pocket-Lint.  At this point, it is not known which device will be in the spotlight, with the long-awaited Microsoft tablet being out just in time for the holidays as well as what Apple will be doing for their iPad.  Very little is known about the Band 2.

While we are the subject of Apple, it is difficult to talk about the Lumia 950 and 950 XL without making comparisons to another Apple product also due this year: the new edition of the iPhone.  This is probably going to be the iPhone 6S, and there will probably be an iPhone 6S Plus as well.  Let's see how these new Microsoft phones with Windows 10 can compare to new Apple phones with iOS 9.
