Microsoft has started giving out media invitations for an event it is hosting in New York on October 6. The software giant is slated to announce major news about devices running its new Windows 10 operating system.

Windows Phones fans are expecting the company to unveil new flagship Lumia handsets this year and it seems that Microsoft is finally ready to deliver. The Verge reported that the Redmond-based tech firm has begun inviting media outlet to a special Windows 10 devices launch event next month.

This news confirms previous rumors that Microsoft will hold a massive October event for the Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, and a new tablet-PC hybrid model called Surface Pro 4. The invite simply says: "We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices."

The upcoming Lumia 950 and 950 XL models, also rumored to be called Talkman and Cityman, respectively, have been the subject of tech rumor mills in the past months. If Microsoft sticks with earlier plans, the Lumia 950 might arrive with a 5.2-inch screen with a QHD resolution. It will use a Snapdragon 808 chipset by Qualcomm coupled with 3GB of RAM.

The larger Lumia 950 XL is said to pack a powerful Snapdragon 810 processor partnered with 3GB worth of RAM. Its display is expected to measure 5.7-inch diagonally with a similar QHD resolution.  Both Lumias will supposedly come with 20MP PureView primary camera along with 5MP wide-angle front facing shooter.

While the Lumia 950 and 950 XL will most likely be the main attraction, Microsoft is also predicted to unveil the successor to its well-received Surface Pro 3 device. The new Surface Pro 4 tablet-PC hybrid will reportedly sport the same form factor and design of its predecessor but will offer updated internal specifications and will be powered by Windows 10 by default. Other forecasted features include a fingerprint scanner, Intel Skylake processors, an improved keyboard, and support for Windows Hello.

Aside from the aforementioned mobile devices, the company is also reported to announce a new version of its Microsoft Band fitness tracker. The updated model is thought to be lighter, smaller, and curved. A Microsoft expert named Paul Thurrott mentioned that it will be more comfortable to wear than the original Band and will be marketed more broadly.

The said October 6 press event will be held at Skylight at Moynihan Station event center in New York City at 10:00 a.m. EDT.
