The Game Awards used to be associated with Spike TV, but the New York Times reports that executive producer Geoff Keighley spent $1 million of his own money to finance the awards in 2014.  Not only will the show be showcasing some of the best games of the year, but there will be some trailers for upcoming games and newly announced titles.  Cinema Blend predicts that gameplay from Uncharted 4, Quantum Break, and Crackdown 3 could be on display.

Other events that are rumored to happen at the Game Awards include a new Mortal Kombat X character being revealed, as well as a special announcement about the virtual reality world with the Oculus Rift, according to Bidnessetc.com. Gamespot reports that there will be some special presenters with Mark Hamill, Kiefer Sutherland, and Shaquille O'Neal, and there will be musical performances by Deadmau5 and Chvrches, which both have ties to gaming.

A full list of all the nominees can be found on another article from Cinema Blend, and the categories are very broad including Developer of the Year, Best Independent Game, Best Mobile Game, as well as awards for different genres of games (Best Shoot, Best Action/Adventure Game, Role-Playing Game, Fighting Game, Family Game, Sports/Racing Game, Multiplayer, etc.).  Like the Academy Awards, there are all kinds of awards based on Performance and Art Direction, but most look forward to the Game of the Year Award.
