Grey's Anatomy Season 12 Mid-Season Premiere Date and Sneak Peek: What Happens to Meredith

"You bring the wine and popcorn. We'll bring the awesomesauce," is the claim of the new TGIT promo that came out on January 7th. The trailer releases some dramatic teaser sneak peeks into the Thursday lineup of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder. Fans are awaiting a little more drama to bring light to the dreary winter days- which will soon be turning into spring.

Today, we're looking at the well-loved, Shonda Rhimes creation of Grey's Anatomy. Season 12 began last year in September. Eight episodes were left off on a cliffhanger when the first part of the season ended on November 19th.

If you need a refresher of what has happened so far in season 12, here are some highlights. We saw Meridith move back to her old place with Maggie and Amelia becoming her housemates. Meredith is named the head of General Surgery, and she starts teaching an anatomy class to the new interns. Bailey is the new Chief of Surgery. A relationship blooms between Owen and Amelia. Callie begins to look for love, and teams up with Richard, who is apparently good at trivia, to be her "wingman." April returns from doing work in Jordan, and there is a conflict with Jackson. Are they going to get a divorce? Will this relationship finally resolve itself?

Speaking of relationship unresolved, Alex Karev and Jo Wilson have moved in together, and they leave us hanging at the end of episode eight with Alex finally proposing, and of course, a good cliffhanger can't let us know the answer. The TGIT promo opens with that teaser.

We can't forget about Callie's new girlfriend, Penny, who happens to be the doctor who failed to save Derek. Is she working at the hospital now? That has given some stress to Meridith and others, rightly so.

One other storyline that we are looking to see resolve is Nathan Riggs. He is the new doctor, brought to Grey Sloan Memorial through a connection with April. Owen despises him for some reason. In the eighth episode, it is revealed that Nathan has a relationship with Owen's mother. Apparently, Nathan feels a familial connection. Hopefully, this mystery will be solved soon.

In the sneak peek that ABC flashes at us, we see Meredith on the floor with blood on her, and then waking up in a panic with an oxygen mask on. Fans have already been speculating what happened. Kelly McCreary, who plays Meredith's half-sister, Maggie, confirms, "Meredith is attacked, and it is as terrifying and as shocking as you would expect for it to be." At a Television Critics Association press tour, she stated, "Get ready to have your guts feel like they're coming out of you, because it's truly harrowing." She also lets on,"As bad as things have gotten for Meredith, this is bad in a whole different way."

Was Meredith shot? Can she ever catch a break? If this was a real-life hospital, I might be afraid to work there- from bombs blowing up, Meredith's near death experience when she almost drowned, the plane crash, the mass shooting, to... So many bad things seem to happen to people who work there.

Can you wait for February 11th? You'll have to if you want to see what will happen! Denzel Washington will direct the Grey Anatomy's midseason premiere. Leave your thoughts in the comments!
