‘Pokémon GO’ and ‘Pokémon Z’ Release Date and Gameplay; New Details Revealed About the Location-Based Game

Pokémon is going to have great year with the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, as well as Pokémon GO.  New details have been revealed about the location-based game with its possible release date and gameplay, and it looks like Pokémon Z is not happening at all.

Last week, we mentioned that Pokémon Z might not be happening, and this could be the last time that we mention it in a headline.  MNR Daily states that Pokémon Z may never have existed in the first place, and with other new titles like Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, that might be enough Pokémon for even the biggest of fans.

This isn't to say that Pokémon is done with its unveilings for the year, as there is a historical release pattern from previous games as a pair of major titles often has a special version of that specific generation. Examples include Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue have Pokémon Yellow, Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver have a Pokémon Crystal, Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire have Pokémon Emerald, and Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl have Pokémon Platinum.  So what will Pokémon Sun and Moon have?

In the meantime, Pokémon is working on Pokémon GO, with Niantic Labs.  Niantic Labs is most famous for Ingress, a location-based game that will now be applied to those who want to search for pocket monsters (where Pokémon dervies its name) out in the real world.  It uses GPS, mapping technology, as well as the camera built into a smartphone to show the user virtual Pokémon in real world locations with you finding them.

These captured Pokémon can be trained for battle, and the user can create a team to defend landmarks and gyms from opposing teams.  Gotta Be Mobile reports some new Pokémon GO video footage that reveals more about the mobile-based game.

It looks like players of Pokémon GO will be able to really customize their trainer.  In the past, the only option was choosing the gender, but the player can choose eye color, hair color, race, and more facial features.  The player can also choose what clothes the trailer will be wearing from the hat, to the jacket, to the pants, all the way to the shoes.  These customizable characters will appear on the map as more than just a dot.

Pokémon GO will have an emphasis on collectible items, and there will be PokéShops for getting more.  There will also be an inventory bag, but there will be a maximum amount of items that can be carried on it.

Players will also have a Pokédex.  It will be empty at the start of the game, but players can fill it by venturing into all kinds of territories to fill it. Eventually, players can browse through their Pokédex to see all the Pokémon encountered on their travels.
