'The Legend of Zelda' Wii U, Nintendo NX Release Date and Rumors: New Nintendo Products To Launch in 2017

Nintendo announced that it will launch its next-generation console--called NX--and "The Legend of Zelda" next year. These two highly anticipated Nintendo products could also appear at the E3 gaming trade show in June. Now, here's what is currently known about Nintendo NX release date and updates on Legend of Zelda game.

Nintendo didn't give any details about the features and specs of NX but quashed speculation about a reveal at the E3 gaming conference in June. The Japanese gaming company said it would focus on its new game The Legend of Zelda in Los Angeles event.

A report from Wall Street Journal last year said Nintendo acquired software development kits (SDKs) to install in the NX console.  Industry experts say Nintendo will sell the next-gen console with at least one mobile unit that could be used together with the console or taken on the road for separate use.

We previously reported Nintendo NX could posses Xbox One-like processing capabilities. This powerful CPU could help NX to stand toe-to-toe against top gaming consoles available in the market today.

Furthermore, new Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima told in Time Magazine earlier this year that the NX console is a brand-new product from Nintendo and not an update to company's  current consoles -- Wii and Wii U.

"[NX] is something unique and different," Kimishima said in an interview with Time's Matt Peckham.

Meanwhile, Nintendo also confirmed that Zelda Wii U will be compatible with the upcoming NX console. Both Nintendo products will be launched globally in March 2017, as per reports from IGN.

Gamers will also have a glimpse of what to expect from new Zelda game at this year's E3 Expo in June.  The title is the only game for any platform playable at Nintendo's booth.  It is also interesting to mention that Zelda was originally scheduled for this year, but Nintendo decided to release it on 2017 to further improve its quality.

International Business Times reported Nintendo has struggled to compete against Sony and Microsoft with its Wii U console. Only 10 million units of the hardware were sold since its launching in 2012. In the last 12 months, Nintendo has just sold 3.2 million units. The company hopes to lure back its customers with the launching of Nintendo NX console.
