iPad Air 3 Release Date and Spec Rumors: New Tablet Rumored To Be Thinner Than Previous Version

May 13, 2016 01:06 PM EDT

Aside from iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, gadget lovers are looking forward to the new features of iPad Air 3. Several tech outlets say Apple's forthcoming tablet will sport thinner body than its previous version.

The rumored iPad Air 3 could appear at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is scheduled on June 13 in San Francisco, California. The Cupertino-based company usually releases new gadgets and new software during the conference.

On the other hand, Chris Martin of PC Advisor says the tablet will come in the third quarter of the year to give updates on the regular iPad model. This prediction makes sense because the tablet would give customers a cheaper option to the new iPad Pro.

It is worth mentioning that the first-generation iPad and the iPad Air 2 were both released in October. The former was introduced in 2013 while the latter was in 2014.  Therefore, the third-generation iPad could come in October 2016.

Furthermore, there are rumors that the iPad Air 3 would be the thinnest iPad to date. However, Apple claims the current iPad Air 2 is "impossibly thin" at about 6.1 mm.  It is still unclear how Apple will develop a thinner tablet, but it is a good move to improve the device.

There's a Youtube video from artist Geert van Uffelen that details the specifications of the yet-unannounced iPad Air 3. Some of the tablet's new features may include 3D Touch, quad speakers for impeccable sound, a retina scanner and A10 processor. Also, the tablet could have an Apple Pencil with greater support.

The iPad Air 3 is said to have better display features with 3112 x 2344 resolution at 401 ppi, a significant increase from the 2048 x 1536 resolution of the previous model. There are also reports that the next iPad will be waterproof and dustproof. The device will be protected with the aluminum 7000 series, which is present in the iPhone 6S.

However, some are talking about the future of iPad Air and whether its next model is even going to be released. With the rising sales of iPad Pro, industry experts say Apple might decide to develop a mini version of the premium tablet.
