The Jacksonville Jaguars has officially confirmed their desire to retain wide receiver Allen Hurns by extending his contract for four more years. This probably came as a relief for the athlete given what happened to him last season.

The Jaguars announced their decision to extend Hurns' contract on Thursday, according to NFL.com. As noted by the sports news site, the deal is worth $40 million with $20 million guaranteed. That means Hurns is expected to make $10 million each year until 2020.

Hurns had a bit of a rough season last year after getting hospitalized in November due to a head injury. This caused him to miss out the Jaguars' Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans. But, despite this, he was still able to set an impressive record by becoming the youngest undrafted NFL player to score 10 touchdowns and post 1,031 yards.

Also, even with sports hernia, Hurns was able to score touchdowns in seven straight games. Because of his achievements and dedication to the sport, the Jaguars did not hesitate in awarding Hurns with a contract extension.

"We are excited for Allen and his family and this is very well deserved," Dave Caldwell, the general manager of the Jacksonville franchise said in a statement according to Sports Illustrated. "Since the day he arrived, he's been a consummate professional and is a great representative of the Jaguars in the community."

"He continued to impress our coaching staff on a daily basis and has certainly earned the respect of his teammates," he added. "Our organizational philosophy is to reward homegrown players when the opportunity presents itself. Hurnsy is a clear example of that."

Hurns came from the University of Miami and was an undrafted free agent. But was able to make his NFL debut in 2014 after signing a contract with the Jaguars. During his first game in the league, which was against the Philadelphia Eagles, he was able to score two touchdowns and catch four passes for 110 yards. He made these two touchdowns during his first receptions, which was also a record in the NFL.
