‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ Season 2 on Netflix Release Date; Will the Spaceship/Vehicle Version of the Voltron Robot Be Coming?

Checking over our past article about Voltron: Legendary Defender, it is very apparent through the comments alone that the show already has a huge fanbase.  The show also has some pretty great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, but a quick Internet search shows that there isn't a green light from Netflix for a Season 2 of this show.  This is everything that is known about Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 2 on Netflix, as well as a suggestion about what will happen for the next season.

According to Release Date, it seems like it isn't a question of "if" there will be a Season 2 of Voltron: Legendary Defender, but more "when".  As stated before, the show has high reviews, so it just makes sense that there would be a second season.  Heck, the show did not end with any type of closure with the big bad villain still around, and the rest of the Voltron force getting separated across space.

The thing about Voltron is that it was a show that is adapted from an anime from the early eighties.  It was made during a time when toy robots that formed into one big robot was gaining popularity with toys like Transformers.  When Voltron was brought to America, it was actually two shows.

The first show back in the eighties was called Beast King GoLion, which was about five lions that could form into Voltron.  This is what the Dreamworks reboot is based on.  The second season of the original eighties series, when it was Americanized, was a completely unrelated anime series known as Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, and its Volton was made out of fifteen individual spaceships.

I remember watching both of these seasons, back in the eighties, as they were afternoon cartoons.  I believe that the original eighties Season 1 and Season 2 effectively transitioned into each other, so a new Voltron had to be created.  This new Voltron team of spaceships could not only form a giant robot, but it could form three individual larger ships of an Air Team, Sea Team, and Land Team.

Okay, so here's a great idea: why not introduce the spaceship version of Voltron to the new rebooted series.  Granted, every spaceship on the original Voltron show had a character associated with it, which would crowd the show with even more characters than the five lion pilots and their friends.

However, it doesn't look like the lion Voltron and the spaceship Voltron ever met on the original anime.  Assuming that the spaceship Voltron gets introduced in Season 2 (or another season after it), the writers shouldn't resist the urge to pair the two together and fight together.  That would be absolutely epic.

If Netflix is smart, then they will have Voltron (and possibly his vehicular brother) appear for Season 2 with a Release Date of June 2017.
