When Jeremy Lin first announced his decision to join the Brooklyn Nets, a lot of New Yorkers were expecting to see the return of Linsanity. But, now that he's with the nets, the new phenomenon might be called "Brook-Lin."
According to reports, Lin has filed a patent to trademark the new term. But, it seems getting the trademark for "Brook-Lin" will be much easier this time around, as compared to what he experienced with Linsanity.
As noted by Yibada, when Lin was still with the New York Knicks, he filed a patent for Linsanity sometime during the height of the phenomenon. However, it turned out that another group of people owned the rights to the label. Lin was still able to win the rights for Linsanity but it took him over four years to do so.
Fortunately, the process for getting the rights to Brook-Lin will be faster since immediately after Lin announced that he will join the Nets, a fan of the athlete immediately applied for the term's trademark. The fan then transferred the application to Lin, according to the NY Post.
It seems the fan is well aware of what Lin went through with Linsanity which is why he or she did the best that the he or she could do to prevent this from happening again.
According to reports, the new label will most likely be used for a clothing line and promotional materials for the athlete.
As for his future with the Nets, Lin recently signed a three-year contract with the team. As revealed by the athlete, the biggest factor that persuaded him in joining the Brooklyn franchise was head coach Kenny Atkinson.
He and Atkinson spent time together when they were still with the Knicks. At that time, Atkinson was the conditioning coach for the Knicks and he was the one who helped Lin reach his potential, which then led to the explosion of the Linsanity phenomenon.
"If I were to be honest, if there was no Kenny there, I would not have even come close to considering joining," he said during The Vertical's podcast. "That relationship is one of the more special relationships I've developed. It's just something about going through the trenches together."
