NFL Rumors: Carolina Panthers Cam Newton Wants Johnny Manziel As Backup; Michael Oher, Greg Olsen Protest

The Carolina Panthers' devastating loss to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl 50 broke the hearts of many of their fans. With the NFL offseason training camps heating up, reports are surfacing that Cam Newton wants to sign Johnny Manziel as his backup quarterback. While this could be considered an answered prayer to the former Cleveland Browns star, it looks like Carolina Panthers players like Michael Oher and Greg Olsen want no part of the Johnny Football drama.

The end of the Johnny Manziel NFL dream came gradually as the Cleveland Browns attempted to help the troubled quarterback. However, nights of partying and drinking with Hollywood celebrities like the Keeping Up With The Kardashians stars derailed Johnny Football. Despite being a former Heisman Trophy winner, the quarterback remains unemployed this NFL offseason. Will all this change with the reported interest of the Carolina Panthers?

Prior to the 2015-16 NFL season, which was dominated by the Denver Broncos under the leadership of Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, the Carolina Panthers made interesting moves in their roster. One was signing Michael Oher, the real life character whose story was based on in the widely popular film Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock, even after he suffered injuries and was assumed to have zero chances of excelling in the NFL. After the campaign of Cam Newton to have him on board, Michael Oher proved the quarterback right by performing remarkably during the regular season.

Rumors are rife that Cam Newton wants to do the same for Johnny Manziel. That is, the Carolina Panthers quarterback wants to give Johnny Football a second chance in the NFL. Is it possible?

Fans of Johnny Manziel had high hopes earlier this year that the former Cleveland Browns star would be able to regroup and make a comeback in time for the next NFL season. However, reports indicate that Johnny Football may have broken his sobriety pledge. Sources reveal that the troubled quarterback was seen downing shots in a bar - a clear sign that he failed to keep his promise of not touching alcohol.

"He was with a group of five and stayed for 25 minutes," shared an insider of the latest drinking spree of Johnny Manziel. The source added, "He had a ginger shot - a specialty drink with whiskey. And downed a rum and Coke."

While this is a disappointing turn of events for Johnny Manziel, his lawyer appears to be dismissive of the issue. In fact, the attorney for the former Cleveland Browns star was incredulous of the report.

He said, "If you are running a story on [his drinking], that's pretty incredible. That's the dumbest story I think I have ever heard, but you all are certainly welcome to it."

At the moment, none of the parties concerned have commented on the possibility of signing Johnny Manziel as backup for Cam Newton. The Carolina Panthers are currently busy improving their roster and focusing on the next NFL season.

What do you think? Will Johnny Manziel have a better future with the Carolina Panthers? Will Cam Newton be able to help straighten out Johnny Football?
