'Arrival' Release Date, New Trailer, and Cast; Has the Alien Invasion Premise Gone Too Far?

It has been said that Hollywood is out of ideas, and who knows if we can really get another one. There is going to be a new film coming out in the fall known as Arrival, which deals with the possibility of an alien invasion. Yes, this plotline has been done to death, and it was even done again this summer with Independence Day: Resurgence. Arrival looks like it could be different, and it is possible that it could be something that that audiences need.

So, there is a trailer for this film, and it looks like most of the spotlight will be on Amy Adams. It looks like she is going to be the voice of reason that will be saving the world.

Actually, Arrival does look different than most alien invasion films, as the aliens have shown up. In most alien invasion films, such as War of the Worlds, Signs, and Independence Day, the aliens show up, and usually do nothing. Then, they just attack.

It would appear that Arrival focuses its trailer on how the aliens show up in these monolithic ships, and it doesn't look like they have anything to say but awkward silence. However, it doesn't look like the aliens are hostile...maybe. Yes, this is the big thing of this film, because Amy Adams is recruited to talk to these aliens, and she has to learn the language.

Granted, this hasn't really ever been attempted in a film, because honestly, can you make a film about translating an alien race's language interesting? If nothing else, you can make it suspenseful as one mistranslation could cause the aliens to attack.

Yes, the alien invasion plot has been done before, and I will have to say that I like the angle that they are going with. It reminds me of Jodie Foster in the movie Contact, who is facing some communication from aliens, and it is up to her to make certain there is a proper translation. Of course, Contact didn't deal with a full-scale alien invasion, but it did thoroughly discuss how the people of Earth would react to knowing they are not alone in the universe.

So, is Amy Adams going to actually figure out how to speak with the aliens and figure out how to prevent a possible invasion? You know, it would be much better if she didn't figure it out. Seriously, wouldn't that just be a better ending then what most alien invasion movies usually do?

Find out when Arrival...arrives in theaters on November 11, 2016.

Oh, and then the aliens can invade, and there is nothing the humans can do to stop them? Most alien invasion movies end with the humans suddenly coming up with some out-of-nowhere way to exterminate that pesky alien race. Oh man, please give me an ending where the aliens actually win?
