Nintendo NX Release Date, Specs and Price: No Show On Tokyo Game Show

It looks like Nintendo do not want to give any update about its NX gaming console at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Many gamers are curious about this next-generation hardware, which is reportedly both handheld and console gaming device. Now, here's what is currently known about Nintendo NX release date, specs and price.

The hype for Nintendo NX is on its highest this week. It started when game show host and TV personality Kevin Pereira posted photos of a conference room, allegedly prepared for Nintendo NX reveal at the recently concluded GameStop Expo 2016 in California. In addition, the excitement of the fans intensified when the host posted a tweet encoded with "NX news tomorrow" on Twitter.

And as we already know, the company did not bring anything about the NX in the event. However, a NeoGAF thread revealed that Nintendo officials did say something about the heavily-rumored console. When the audience was asked if they want to hear some NX news, an unnamed Nintendo executive took the stage and said the hardware might be released "very soon."

According to the Verge, the Tokyo Game Show would have been the perfect time to announce the NX while different tech media outlets are in the country to cover Japanese games.

For those unaware, Nintendo conducted an event on the TGS sidelines in 2005 to introduce the Wii controller to audience. It is not yet clear if the company would do the same for the NX, but we'll update you if there's new information.

As for the specs of the NX, The Wall Street Journal said the hardware will likely be a 2-in-1 device, which includes both a console and at least one mobile unit. The NX could either be used with a TV for console gaming or taken on the road for portable gaming. In addition, it might be some kind of hybrid console / portable hardware that merges the two sides of Nintendo's business.

Back in 2013, the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the company's development team for console and handheld gaming had been merged into one division.

The same report from The Wall Street Journal also stated the NX would be powered by powerful processor that would rival current consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

For now, we can only on rumors and speculations as Nintendo has not yet revealed the full specs and features of the hardware. Earlier this year, the company said the NX will be released worldwide in March 2017.
