While performing at the NFL Sanctioned Super Bowl Gospel Celebration (SBGC) held at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church, CCM artist Natalie Grant encouraged attendees to put their trust in God - not in any government ruler.
At the star-studded event held ahead of Super Bowl LI, Grant gave an emotional rendition of "Clean" and "King of the World", two songs highlighting God's power and human inability.
"I'm not looking to the government to solve my problems," Grant told hundreds gathered at the Houston, Texas megachurch, who cheered.
Lyrics to "King of the World" include the lines: "When did I forget that you've always been the king of the world?/I try to take life back right out of the hands of the king of the world/How could I make you so small/When you're the one who holds it all/When did I forget that you've always been the king of the world."
The singer later took to Facebook to share a clip of her performance: "What a privilege to sing about the King of the world in Houston last night at the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration," she captioned the video. "Singing about my Redeemer never gets old. Grateful the NFL has sanctioned this event as the kickoff of super bowl weekend."
The 18th annual music celebration also featured gospel singer and songwriter Tamela Mann, rapper Lecrae, Houston native Yolanda Adams, and Grammy award-winning artist CeCe Winans.
According to the Houston Chronicle, a number of professional football players were also sitting throughout the audience, and Troy Vincent, the NFL's current executive vice president of f00tball operations, received the Lifetime of Inspiration Award for his contributions to the NFL community and for being a man of faith.
The event website notes that the SBGC is the "first and only inspirational music event sanctioned by the NFL for Super Bowl weekend" and "brings key NFL players and top artists together on one stage for uplifting music and inspirational messages."
"We founded this event to bring even more inspiration and celebration to one of the biggest events of the year - the Super Bowl," Melanie Few-Harrison, creator and executive producer of the event, told My Houston Gospel. "Each year we aim to touch lives in a meaningful way and make the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration bigger than the last with artists and special guests. We look forward to kicking off Super Bowl 51 in Houston and making our mark as the best most uplifting event we've had in our 18-year history!"
