Battle.net Downtime: Latest Updates, Overwatch And WoW Gamers Grumble

Apr 11, 2017 09:33 PM EDT

Any gamer worth his or her salt would know that one of the most irritating things about multiplayer games is the server not working as it should. Blizzard’s Battle.net plays home to World of Warcraft, Diablo III, Starcraft II, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, and Overwatch when it comes to gaming with your friends virtually. Unfortunately, the cogs in the Battle.net machine have apparently come off yesterday, resulting in a downtime that frustrated gamers who quickly took to social media to vent their thoughts and feelings. Well, at the very least no one was voluntarily removed from the servers with a bloodied countenance afterwards.

Before we proceed, do take note that everything has already been resolved as of 6pm Eastern Time. That ought to make everyone heave a sigh of relief, knowing that they are now able to continue with their online gaming fix without missing a beat. For those who just returned home from work, beat from the day’s exertions at the office, you will be able to plonk your rear end on the comfortable gaming chair and fire up Battle.net with the game of your choice without having any error messages greet your eyes.

What’s with the Battle.net outage?
The massive outage which affected Blizzard’s Battle.net earlier today affected millions of players who tried to sign in but experienced login issues for a few hours. Not only that, the friends list has also gone missing or empty in certain cases for gamers. Blizzard did share over Twitter on how they are currently working on the situation, and have started to issue updates that might remedy the problems. However, just to be on the safe side, Blizzard did not mention any specific time window as to when the outage would be resolved, or if a final fix has been rightfully issued.

Not only were there login issues reported concerning Battle.net earlier today, it also spread to the rest of Blizzard’s online services. It has been assumed that these issues were confined to gamers who were rocking to Battle.net on the PC, as that is the primary platform where most folks get their Blizzard gaming fix on, although there was also the rare probability of the issue making its way to the console market, too.

It is nice to see Blizzard issue updates on the situation from time to time over Twitter, and ever since the outage was detected, at least two software updates were already issued. Needless to say, the usual public relations exercise of apologizing and thanking their customer base for their patience ran its due course.

All’s well that ends well eventually. Now that Battle.net is up and running, you do not really need to know of the cause behind the outage this morning, do you? What is important is for Blizzard to have figured out what went wrong so that the same mistake will not be repeated again down the road. So far, we have not received any further word on any more mini outages or downtime for any of the Battle.net servers.
