Samsung Galaxy S7 Run Into Problems, Post-Android 7.0 Nougat Update

You would expect that a company like Samsung would have done its homework well before releasing an operating system update to a flagship device such as the Galaxy S7. Apparently all is not well with Galaxy S7 owners who have made the jump from Marshmallow to Android 7.0 Nougat. The operating system update has run into issues, but the fallout does seem to be limited to those who are contracted to US wireless carrier Verizon.

The Verizon community forum is lit up with a slew of topics concerning the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Samsung Galaxy S7. This certainly does not bode well for Verizon and Samsung. Knowing that one of the Samsung Galaxy S7’s strongest points would be it’s fantastic camera, the latest update has introduced plenty of bugs into the Galaxy S7 camera app. One particular user had beef with the camera app, citing that it does not show any kind of settings while the resolution remains at a resolution all the way from the mid-1990s -- 352 x 480 pixels. Thankfully for that user, a simple step of restoring the handset to factory settings solved the issue, although there was the tedious action of performing a backup of all your data in the first place.

The camera app is not the only thing affected by the Android 7.0 Nougat update on the Samsung Galaxy S7 -- other users did share their complaints about the LED notification lights not working properly, all the way to far more serious issues such as the inability to make phone calls. Others remain stuck in a perpetual bootloops -- that is, the handset rebooting non-stop. Verizon’s online customer support are certainly swamped at this moment (but they are having a picnic in the park compared to what United Airlines is going through at the moment), constantly firing out replies to an ever growing number of disgruntled posts on its community forum.

It does seem that the customer support is looking for as much information as possible concerning the issues which plague the Galaxy S7 after applying the Android 7.0 Nougat update. For those who have not yet made the jump to Nougat from Marshmallow as a Verizon subscriber with the Galaxy S7, hold on to your horses. That is the best advice which can be dispensed at the moment, at least until the bugs are resolved some time down the road.

This is not the first time that there are issues with an Android 7.0 Nougat update on the Galaxy S7. Earlier this January, the update was stopped after users in China reported of bug issues. Other Galaxy S7 users scattered across several countries also picked up their Android 7.0 Nougat update such as Canada, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Hopefully Verizon will be able to come up with a viable fix sooner rather than later, and this would then make the Galaxy S7 to feel as though it is a totally new handset -- with all of the new features that accompany Android 7.0 Nougat. Those who are T-Mobile subscribers must have heaved a sigh of relief knowing that their Android Nougat update experience had been relatively painless.
