According to a recent survey of all 43 dioceses in England, churchgoers in Nottinghamshire are the most generous, offering an average of 8.56 a week, 4.1 percent of their net income. Churchgoers of Birmingham come in second, offering 8.02 per week. In third place is Sheffield, with churchgoers giving 7.08 a week. Fourth is Bradford and fifth is London. Churchgoers in the Lincoln diocese come in last, offering only 4.25 a week, 2.1 percent of their net income.

The support given to dioceses have fallen considerable this past year. Over one-third of the dioceses are receiving no help at all from the commissioners' assets.

Unless more support is given to dioceses, many will file for bankruptcy. An estimate has been summed up by financial managers to solve the Church's financial problem: for every churchgoer to give 5 percent of their net income.

The following is how the dioceses fill up the plate:

Percentage of net income: 1 Southwell 4.1, 2 Birmingham 4.0, 3 Sheffield 3.7, 4 Bradford 3.6, 5 London 3.4, 6 Bristol 3.3, 7, Leicester 3.3, 8 Canterbury 3.1, 9 Southwark 3.1, 10 Manchester 3.1, 33 Ely 2.4, 34 Chichester 2.4, 35 Winchester 2.3, 36 St Albans 2.3, 37 Sodor & Man 2.3, 38 Worcester 2.3, 39 St Edmundsbury & Ipswich 2.3, 40 Hereford 2.3, 41 Chester 2.2, 42 Salisbury 2.2, 43 Lincoln 2.1
