Mr. Donald Tsang, chief executive of Hong Kong S.A.R., encouraged the people of Hong Kong to face the rise and fall and challenges in life with strong determination and the proper set of values.

Commenting on the Manila bus hijacking incident, Tsang said through the event the ugliness of human nature was revealed, where in just one off thought eight lives were claimed and families destroyed.

On the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Youth Development Association Jockey Club Youth Moral Training Project, he said the murderer had only his selfish gains in mind and did not stop to think of others. Can a person unscrupulously take other people’s lives to gain his own goals, throwing behind all moral standards?

The Hong Kong chief executive classified this incident as the results of extremists, but there are joy and sorrows, rise and falls in life. To overcome the predicament, you must have a strong will and correct values, or else it is very easy to fall into the wrong paths, hurting yourselves, others, and regretting of not being able to turn back.

He said that the pace of Hong Kong’s society is very fast and the environment is complicated, so it is inevitable that while growing up youths may face many temptations and tests.

In addition, the ever-increasing problems of drug-abuse and illegal prostitutions among the youths and other forms of self-deprecation all have their roots in improper values, lacking in goals of life and moral senses.

Pushing for moral education isn’t equivalent to forcing upon the next generation the values of the old by creating various rules and regulations, controlling their thoughts and behaviors, said Tsang. On the contrary, the mission of moral education training is to help youths love themselves and respect others, raise team spirits and the abilities to face challenges, and setup proper values.

Lastly, the final goal is to see that everyone can live abundantly and excitingly, hoping that everyone can place others above oneself, show mutual respect, mutual cooperation, reaching the harmonious improvement of the entire body.

Tsang encouraged the youths to stand up, to learn to love themselves, love others, and to keep training their determination and will, enriching themselves and live out an exciting life.
