Orange Is the New Black Season 4 Release Date, Spoilers: Top Five Things to Know Before the Season Debut

Oct 23, 2015 12:55 PM EDT

Orange is the New Black Season 4 is coming next year, but the question is when. Meanwhile, clues are surfacing on the web concerning details about the plot. Here is a rundown of the top five things to be aware of in the coming months before the season premiere of the popular Netflix series.

So, when is the Release Date?

Presently, OITNB is just about wrapped up with filming for Season 4. Hence, the show's next chapter is headed for post-production, which means release date information is simply not available at this time. Happily, that still means the show is coming along as scheduled.

Various publications and online sources predict the show will return for the fourth season sometime in June 2016. Except the first season, Orange is the New Black premiered in the month of June. However, this prediction should not be taken at face value considering that scheduling is always subject to change. The best advice is to wait for more word from Netflix.

Alex Returns, but Not Necessarily Unscathed

In the final episode of the third season, Alex is cornered in the garden shed by an anonymous attacker. Viewers are not told what has happened to the character. Actress Laura Prepon, who plays Alex, recently posted an Instagram of herself holding a Litchfield prison ID.

"Excited to get out there and make an awesome season for you guys!" Alex happily wrote in that Instagram posting. Fans took this as good sign that her character somehow survives the ambush. However, the question that remains is whether or not she sustains severe injuries.

With Piper (Taylor Schilling) starting to become assertive within the prison system, Alex is beginning to turn a cold shoulder to her now ex-lover. Meanwhile, there are signs that some of the inmates will start to turn on Piper. It will be interesting to see how Alex responds to this developing situation.

Sofia vs. Gloria Feud Continues

TV Guide recently caught up with actress Laverne Cox, who plays inmate Sofia. Cox believes that her character's feud with Gloria is not coming to an end anytime soon. Actress Selenis Leyva stars opposite Cox as Gloria.

Surprisingly, Leyva believes that the chance for forgiveness is still possible. "We don't know what's coming yet ... but they are good people, and you see that individually," she admitted to the publication. "The audience got to see that these women are having conflict. And it's not about a personal attack on each other. It's more about their children, and how they're desperately trying to hold onto some control."

Overpopulation Coming to Litchfield

Another final scene shows the inmates temporarily escaping from prison due to an administrative bungle. They are last seen frolicking in a nearby lake to take advantage of their short-lived freedom. While this happens, viewers see busloads of new arrivals going through the gates of Litchfield.

Next season will see the tension between the old hands and new prisoners as the prison facilities become strained. It is more than sure that the situation will quickly get out of control. Recently, actress Jolene Purdy has been confirmed to be starring as a regular in the fourth season. Her role has not been announced at this moment.

Two More Actresses Promoted to Series Regular

Pop Sugar recently reported that two stars will return to Season Four as series regulars. They include actress Jackie Cruz, who stars as Flaca, and Lea DeLaria, who plays Big Boo. The audience is likely to get flashback scenes that tell more about the characters' lives.
