Now that Google has made the announcement that their new version of Android M (also known as version 6.0 or Marshmallow), this new OS upgrade has come to Google's own Nexus series.  It has been about a month, and many are wondering when Marshmallow will come to other new Android smartphones like the ones from Motorola.  This is what is known about the Android M 6.0 Marshmallow and Lollipop (also known as version 5.0 or Android L) Updates for Motorola Moto X 2014, 2015; Moto G3, G2; Moto 3rd & 2nd Gen Moto E-Series for Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile.

There is some good news for those who own the Moto X Pure Edition as well as the 2nd Gen Moto X.  That news, according to Gotta Be Mobile, is that there is an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and it is rolling out in select regions.  Like the Moto X Style will begin receiving the OTA (Over The Air) update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in Brazil and India.  The Moto X 2nd Gen update will then be hitting users' smartphones in Brazil.  This was confirmed in a tweet from Motorola's own David Schuster who also added "full deployment will proceed in stages over the next few weeks".

In addition to those X-Series of phones, there were other Motorola phones in the G-Series that are due for the Marshmallow upgrade.  According to Android Pit, they include the Moto G 3rd Gen and Moto G 2014 edition.  The DROID Turbo, Moto MAXX, and Moto Turbo also made this Marshmallow upgrade list.

The issue with Android upgrades is that they can be very slow.  Even some of the newer Android devices often don't receive their upgrades until the beginning of the year after the rollout begins in the previous fall.  There usually is not any given chart with deadlines showing what smartphone will get it when from any company, and this includes Samsung, Sony, HTC, and LG.  Once the rollout does become available, it can often vary from carriers to carriers, like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

As far as the release date of these updates for the G series, it is expected to arrive on the 3rd Generation sometime in November and the 2nd Generation sometime in December.  Moto G 2nd Gen Google Play editions should have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update already.

This is what we previously reported, but there has been some new information about the G Series that is bad news for their users.  Neurogadget reports that the original Moto G (2013 edition) and the original Moto X will not receive the upgrade, and this goes for any of Motorola's E Series.  The best these phones can hope for are upgrades to the latest versions of Android 5.1.1.
