Good news for real-time strategy gamers who are avid fan of 1998's StarCraft. A remastered version of the game is on the way. Blizzard is currently developing StarCraft HD Remaster, and it could be released on September.

Korean site iNews24 initially reported about the upcoming release of StarCraft HD Remaster. The publication cited multiple resources to confirm the development of the game. The remastered version of StarCraft is said to introduce updated graphics and revamped user interface.

It is rumored to have a complete 3D overhaul of Terran, Protoss, and Zerg races. In addition, it might include single-player content and multiplayer mode from the Brood War expansion.

The original gameplay of StarCraft would remain, according to GameSpot. However, it is unclear whether there would be improvements or some changes to the gameplay.

Interestingly, the September release of StarCraft HD Remaster would coincide with the finale of the StarCraft II World Championship Series, which is set to take place in Mexico.

Blizzard has not yet announced the specific release date of StarCraft HD Remaster. Several tech websites claim it would happen in the last week of September.

In related news, the KickStarter-funded Starcraft Universe will become available sometime this month. Developer Upheaval Arts said Starcraft's Mod features 8 hero classes - 4 from Terran and 4 from Protoss. Players can also craft gears, buy items from vendors, duel folks in PvP and more. In addition, expect to see Warcraft-like raid across the game's 20-planet alternate universe.

According to game developers, StarCraft Universe is set in an alternate reality, where the end of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has a grim conclusion for Kerrigan.

The original StarCraft was released in 1998. A year after, the aforementioned Brood War expansion became available. StarCraft was hailed as one of the most influential and beloved real-time-strategy games ever. Because of the game's success, Blizzard released a sequel in 2010 called StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.
