Apple iPad Air 3 Release Date, Specs, and Update

Oct 09, 2016 02:54 PM EDT

It has been two years since Apple fans saw a new iPad Air tablet. With that amount of time, many are wondering if the third iPad Air is now underway. The first and second iPad Air were released in October. Will the iPad Air 3 become available this October 2016? Let's find out.

Apple usually releases a new version of iPad Air during the fourth quarter of the year. The first iPad was released on Oct 22, 2013, while the iPad Air 2 became available on Oct. 16, 2014. Now, industry experts say the third generation of the tablet might be released before October 2016 ends.

Apple is known for being tight-lipped before announcing its new product. So, it is still possible that the Cupertino-based company will reveal the iPad Air 3 in the third or fourth week of October.

In a report from MacWorld, if the rumored October 2016 launching did not happen, Apple may launch the tablet on November or December. This theory makes sense given that resellers are reportedly started cutting the price of the iPad Air 2 to make room for its successor.

As for the specs of iPad Air 3, it may come with better display features. Rumors claim the tablet will sport a 3112 x 2344-pixel resolution screen, which is an improvement from 2048 x 1536 resolution of the iPad Air 2. In addition, the next Air tablet will be waterproof and dustproof.

Interestingly, several tech websites claim iPad Air 3 will be the thinnest tablet to date. Apple claims the existing model is "impossibly thin" at about 6.1 mm, and the next model will be slimmer than that. It is still unclear how the Cupertino tech firm will make a thinner tablet, but it is a good move to make the gadget more portable.

To make the iPad Air 3 tougher, its body would be made from 7000-series aluminum, a material that also used in the latest iPhone 7. With thinner body, the state-of-the-art aluminum would definitely help the tablet to become more bend-proof.

For other features, it may include quad speakers for impeccable sound, retina scanner, A10 processor, and retina scanner. In addition, the tablet might come with an improved Apple Pencil. It might also not have the standard headphone jack.

As always, readers are advised to take the rumors mentioned above with a grain salt. Apple has not yet confirmed anything regarding specs of iPad Air 3.the
