Boston Marathon bombing survivor engaged to firefighter who saved her life

A woman who lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombing is now engaged to the firefighter who saved her. Mike Materia was the first-responder firefighter Sdoia would ultimately have her right leg amputated, and she credits Materia with helping her “get back on her feet emotionally and physically,” according to the New York Post. Now, three and a half years after their first date in June 2013, the duo have shared that they’re engaged to be married this fall. On the day of the bombing in April 2013, Sdoia, 48, a long-distance runner, was a spectator near the marathon finish line when the pressure-cooker bombs went off.
