iPhone 6, iOS 8 Release Date 2014: Leaked Photos Make Appearance on French Twitter Feed

Every month seems to bring a fresh batch of allegedly leaked Apple's iPhone 6 photos, and this month is of no exception as French-language site Nowwhereelese released images showing what appears to be a mockup of the phone via its Twitter feed on Monday.

Such photos are sure to bring renewed energy to the iPhone 6 rumor mill. And, there is already much speculation that the new device will make an appearance at WWDC 2014, which kicks off on June 2 in San Francisco, Calif.

A study of the images reveals a device in spaceship gray, instead of the black or white color that is more commonplace amongst previous leaked photos. Looking at the photos alone, it is difficult to determine the exact size and thickness of the mockup. However, the mockup shown appears to that of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, as opposed to the larger 5.5-inch model. In terms of shape though, the device appears to be more or less in the same elongated shape with rounded edges. Other distinguishing features include rounded buttons and a lightning port. The power button is situated to the side rather than the top.

Perhaps the one area most hotly debated amongst the experts is regarding the actual iPhone 6 thickness. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, notable for making accurate predictions in the past, thought the phone would be roughly 6.5mm in thickness.  In contrast, a Ukrainian iPhone fan blog claimed they had insider knowledge indicating the device to be 6mm thick.

It is generally believed that the iPhone 6 will have the iOS 8 software installed. Just like the iPhone 6, the iOS 8 is rumored to make an appearance at WWDC 2014 - a logical possibility given that it is in Apple's best interest to introduce the most recent software update in the newest flagship device. Amongst the more highly-anticipated features, the iOS 8 may come bundled with the Healthbook app, an improved feature that allows users to regulate fitness and health activities. Other functions may include a standalone iTune Radio app and redesigned Apple Maps. Besides making a possible appearance on the iPhone 6, the iOS 8 may be installed in other devices such as the iWatch.

There is no official confirmation of the iPhone 6 release date, though it has been rumored to be sometime in fall 2014. This comes as no surprise because the iPhone 5 was released at around the same time last year. It is also rumored that the 4.7-inch version will be the first released, while the 5.5-inch will be released much later. Last week, a Taiwan-based website claimed that the 5.5-inch version is slated for release in 2015. The veracity of this information remains a mystery.
