Dragon Age: Inquisition Release Date: New Trailer Introduces Companions

Dragon Age: Inquisition gears up for its November 18th launch date with a new trailer released this week showing off the Inquisitor and his NPC followers.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the third major game in the Dragon Age series, serving as the sequel to Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. The fantasy role-playing game is set on the continent of Thedas in what developer BioWare calls the largest geographical territory of the three Dragon Age games -- as much as five times that of the original game's Ferelden.

In contrast to the first two games' linear storyline, Dragon Age Inquisition is said to be much more open-ended in its plot. A massive civil war has erupted between the ruling Empress' loyalists and a rogue noble faction led by her cousin.

Dragon Age Inquisition takes on a new protaganist from the first two games, but BioWare teases that an appearance from your original characters is possible.

It was recently announced that a four-player co-op mode would be available separately from the single-player mode that we've come to love in these Dragon Age games. Multi-player progression won't affect the single-player campaign, and it acts more like a dungeon crawl with friends than anything else.

The new video released this week from BioWare focuses on your character's companions -- something BioWare is famous for in games like Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and the original Dragon Age games.

You can recruit nine potential companions in the game, and this video details three of them.

"The Iron Bull is a powerful warrior of the Qunari race," the video describes. "He commands the Bulls Chargers, the most prestigious mercenary band in the country. In combat, Bull is the muscle that leads the charge."

The video goes on to describe the next follower, known as Sera. "Sera is a chaotic elven archer, as unpredictable in battle as out of it. She leads an underground network of criminals and joins the Inquisition to fight for those she deems worthy: the helpless people caught in the turmoil."

And finally, we get a look at Dorian the mage. "Born in a corrupt northern empire where mages rule, Dorian fights to redeem his homeland. In battle, Dorian's focus is protecting the party." Dorian was first revealed in July of this year as a full playable gay character in the game that writer David Gaider called "very personal" to create.

"I suppose this aspect of Dorian will make him controversial in some corners," Gaider explains. "But I was glad to include it. It made writing Dorian a very personal experience for me, and I'm hopeful that will make him seem like a fully realized character to fans in the end."

Dragon Age: Inquisition is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on November 18 in North America and November 21 in Europe.
