'Avatar 2' Release Date, Cast, and Movie Plot Spoilers

In case you have forgotten, it has been almost six years since James Cameron's Avatar was brought to the big screen, catapulting Hollywood into a 3D revival.  The film was the highest-grossing of all time, and one would think that there would be a sequel by now.  Lest we forget that this is James Cameron, who gave the world what was once the biggest grossing film of all time with Titanic, and finally followed it up with Avatar 12 years later.  Cameron is working Avatar 2, as well as movies Avatar 3 and Avatar 4, and this is what we know about the Release Date, Cast, Plot, and potential spoilers.

According to The Associated Press, Cameron has delayed the release date of Avatar 2 to December 25th, 2017.  Avatar 2 was originally going to be released in 2016, and the delay is a result of movies 2-4 being shot at the same time.  Cameron has stated that "There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a standalone film."

In fact, James Horner, the franchise's music director, has stated that Cameron really has four sequels, and is trying to make it into three.  He also added that Cameron is trying to keep it from expanding to a fifth movie, but he is confident that Cameron will "get that sorted out".

As far as the plot goes, Coming Soon reports that Sam Worthington, who played protagonist Jake Sully in the first film, will be going to a different planet, but the sequel will see a return to Pandora, but in the "ocean ecosystem for Pandora".

The Latino Post reports that Zoe Saldana has seen glimpse of scripts that the production team is already working on.  We can safely assume that her character, Neytiri, will return from the first film.

Another returning cast member that should be of much surprise is Sigourney Weaver.  In spite of her character, Dr. Grace Augustine, dying in the first film, she will be back for the next two films, according to Variety.  Also returning will be Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch in the 2009 film and will be a major enemy in at least the second film.

Considering what we know of these spoilers and the first film, it actually would be "easy" to do  Avatar sequels.  The first movie showed how this company was willing to eradicate an alien species in order to obtain their precious unobtainium, but this company could easily be on other planets with other species as well.  Perhaps Jake Sully and Netytiri will journey to other words and overthrow the company outposts there.  This would eventually take them to Earth for a final confrontation, and then it would be an alien invasion plot, but with the humans as the bad guys.

Time will tell if that theory will be true.  As stated before, Avatar 2 will arrive in theatres on December 25, 2017.  Avatar 3 is expected to arrive sometime in 2018 and Avatar 4 in 2019.  Expectation is very high for Cameron to top what he did with Avatar
