The New York Knicks have been attempting to revamp their roster since the NBA offseason. With the deal that could have brought in LaMarcus Aldridge in the NBA team failing to come into fruition due to the more appealing offer of the San Antonio Spurs to the athlete, it looks like the New York Knicks are stuck with their old group of players this season. However, the NBA team actually have a promising star in their midst: Carmelo Anthony.

With the recent performance of the New York Knicks in the NBA though, it looks like the presence of Carmelo Anthony is no longer enough to push the team to victory. Since the NBA star signed with the New York Knicks, the team have been doing its best to build a roster around Carmelo Anthony's strengths and demands. As the player shows the signs of wear and tear, missing 77 games in the past four NBA season, fans and followers of the New York Knicks might be wondering whether the team still feel that Carmelo Anthony is worth all the money they pay him.

"Melo has been a great scorer," noted Kelly Scaleta of Today's Fast Break, referring to the achievements of the NBA star. The sports analyst added, "But there's a danger when it comes to looking at a player's legacy. A team isn't going to trade for anyone for what he's done. They're only concerned with what he'll do and how much they'll have to pay him to do it. And along those lines, you really have to pause before assuming that he's worth trading for."

Carmelo Anthony's contract with the New York Knicks has been known to be one of the most luxurious agreements in the NBA. However, this might end soon as more and more basketball stars are breaking out every season and the free agency market in 2016 looks notably promising. As reported by various sources, the NBA market next year will see the release of Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron James from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Dwyane Wade from the Miami Heat.

Among these three stars, NBA teams are most eager to pursue Kevin Durant since both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are reportedly re-signing with their respective teams - a fact that would only see efforts go to waste. With Kevin Durant presented as a highly available option, a number of teams have been figuring out ways to clear cap space and offer the NBA star a hefty sum to sign with them.

As the New York Knicks struggle to excel in the NBA, it might be appealing to the team to let go of a hefty contract to accommodate the salary and deal presumably sought by Kevin Durant. Rumors are rife that the Oklahoma City Thunder star will not settle for an inferior contract should he decide to leave his current NBA team. With Dwyane Wade and LeBron James as his companions in the free agency market, it looks like Kevin Durant expects the same lucrative deal offered to him - one that will match the contracts of the two NBA stars. With this in mind, the New York Knicks' move to release Carmelo Anthony will definitely give the leverage in terms of matching the rumored salary demand of Kevin Durant in 2016.
