NFL News: New York Jets Reject Geno Smith, Stick to Ryan Fitzpatrick; Eric Decker Out, Devin Smith In

The New York Jets will be welcoming the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday (September 27), 1:00 pm ET at the MetLife Stadium in E. Rutherford, NJ for the Week 3 of the NFL regular season. Given the current standing of the New York Jets, 2 - 0, compared with the record attained by the Philadelphia Eagles, 0 - 2, the host NFL team is pegged as the winner for this matchup.

The New York Jets will face the Philadelphia Eagles fresh off a 20 - 7 win over the Indianapolis Colts last weekend. With the absence of New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith in the field, the NFL team opted to field Ryan Fitzpatrick who managed to pitch in two touchdowns against one interception during the game against the Indianapolis Colts. Ryan Fitzpatrick also recorded 22 completed passes out of 34 for 244 yards. With these numbers in mind, it appears that the absence of Geno Smith in the lead position in the New York Jets roster is not that much of a tragedy for the NFL team - a fact that seems to be reiterated by head coach Todd Bowles in a press release.

"I thought he did a good job managing the ball game," shared Todd Bowles with respect to the performance of Ryan Fitzpatrick during the Week 2 NFL match of the New York Jets against the Indianapolis Colts. The New York Jets head coach added, "Obviously, he threw a pick in the red zone, down there, and that's something we don't want, but he did a good job. He had command of the offense, understood what they were trying to do to him and we stuck to the run and didn't air out all over the place which kept their offense off the field as well. I thought he did a good job."

Given the appraisal of Todd Bowles on the performance of Ryan Fitzpatrick as the replacement quarterback for starter Geno Smith, the match of the New York Jets against the Philadelphia Eagles will see the former second quarterback in the starting line once again. The New York Jets coach shared, "Ryan is our starting quarterback right now." He added, "We're doing well, we have good chemistry going and everything else and Geno understands that and as we go, Ryan is our quarterback. We'll go forward from there."

Meanwhile, another New York Jets star suffered from an injury: Erick Decker. Although the wide receiver incurred a sprained knee, it looks like Todd Bowles remains optimistic that the New York Jets will get in the match against the Philadelphia Eagles with Eric Decker and not with Devin Smith. He shared, "I don't know, I'll have to see how he's doing later in the week," referring to the status of Eric Decker. The New York Jets coach added, "If he's not moving well obviously he's not going to play. Time will tell. We have a little bit of time, so I'm hopeful, but it's not out of the realm that he won't play either."
