‘Injustice 2’ Release Date and Revealing before E3 2016

If you aren't familiar with Injustice, it has a subtitle of Gods Among Us, and the game was developed by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment for all three consoles at the time (PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U).  The game received a lot of praise, as it combined the Mortal Kombat fighting style from NetherRealm with the intellectual property of Warner Brothers' own DC comics characters.  There have always been rumors of a sequel, and one would think that this would be announced at E3 2016 next week.  However, thanks to a leak, it looks like Injustice 2 is coming, and this is what we know about the release date.

The leak is probably from Gamestop, as there has been an Injustice 2 poster making the rounds on the Internet.  The poster features Batman going up against the Flash.  If you are wondering why two good guys from the DC universe are fighting, then you obviously haven't seen any superhero movies this year.

Also, the plotline of Injustice: Gods Among Us is about heroes fighting heroes because it takes place in a universe outside the regular DC universe where Superman has taken over the world and established truth, justice, and his way.  The original game had a storyline where heroes and villains fought against each other to set this world free.  Like many event comic stories, it got pretty complicated.

There was a very interesting tweet photo from Ed Boon, the head of NetherRealm Studios, who took a shot at Gamestop.  According to Crew Ham, Boon's tweet had a "Party Invitation List" that featured very big names like President Obama, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Oprah, George Clooney, and the last name of "Gamestop" is crossed out.  That is more than subtle way of saying "no thank you for spoiling my surprise".

It was actually believed that E3 2016 would be the party where Injustice 2 would be unveiled.  If you aren't familiar with E3, it is a huge video game convention that assembles at the Los Angeles Convention Center around June, and it will be happening on June 14-16.  It was also expected that Mortal Kombat 11 would be announced there, according to Yibada, but that has not been leaked.

As far as what Injustice 2 is about, it could continue some of the ideas in the first game.  However, the DC universe has been around for decades, and it would be relatively easy for them to come up with a plotline.  As I have said before, heroes fighting heroes is a common comic book storyline, and there have been many event comics where this has happened.

As for the release date for the game, Gotta Be Mobile reports that it could be out as soon as the fall, just before the holidays.  It could also be ready to come out in 2017.
