NBA Rumors: Jeremy Lin Surpasses Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook as Top Point Guard in the League

Jeremy Lin of the Brooklyn Nets has just been named as the best point guard in the NBA, at least according to a recent poll. Based on the results of the survey, Lin has outrank several top shooters in the league including Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Results of the poll probably came as a surprise to NBA followers especially since Lin and the Charlotte Hornets, which was his team last season, didn't even make it to the finals last year. Still though, the face of Linsanity managed to surpass the league's top point guards in a recent poll.

The poll, which was held by Hoops Hype, asked readers to rank the various playmakers in the league by casting their up-votes and down-votes.

Currently, Lin is at the top spot with about 3,200 up-votes and 1,200 down-votes. Trailing behind him is Curry with 1,500 and 801 up-votes and down-votes respectively. Holding down third place is Westbrook, who was able to collect 1,300 up-votes and 693 down-votes. Irving, on the other hand, only had 1,100 up-votes and 776 down-votes.

Falling behind in the last or 30th spot is Patrick Beverley of the Houston Rockets. As of the moment, he only has 247 up-votes and 1,300 down-votes.

Seeing Lin overtake Curry, a back-to-back MVP, and the title-holder Irving is certainly a big surprise. But then again, the poll did not take into account the stats of the players, which closely reflect their actual performance during games.

Instead, the poll is just like a popularity contest among the current point guards in the league. Despite the title of the poll, this doesn't necessarily mean that Lin is hands-down the best point guard in the NBA today. It only means that Lin probably has a way bigger fan base that Curry, Westbrook and Irving. according to Sportsrageous. Or, maybe the fans of these three players aren't really into taking online polls which then allowed Lin to take the lead.

But even though Lin isn't on the same skill level as Curry, Irving or Westbrook, he is still a very effective and reliable player for any team. After all, Linsanity wouldn't have probably existed if it weren't for his natural talent on the court.
