Motorola Moto 360 Watch Release Date: Get it For Free (Limited Time Offer)

Aug 27, 2014 08:00 PM EDT

As Motorola's Moto 360 is about to hit the market later this year, there is now a chance to get the smartwatch ahead of everyone else. Here are two ways for consumers to get the mobile device for free. Please note that the methods described below are time-sensitive and subject to restrictions.

Subscribing to 'Yo'

With this option, there is a small price to pay. Interested parties will first need a subscription with Yo, the viral messaging app that has so far earned its developers $1 million.

"Motorola fans have 24 hours to send a 'Yo' to the Motorola account for a chance to win the new Moto 360," Yo explained on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

"Tomorrow, at 3pm CST, Motorola will send a Yo to all of their subscribers with a link for an early chance to get the Moto 360. The first 20 people to click the link from Motorola will win a new Moto 360 as a part of Motorola's first release of the watch."

Apparently, Motorola is working with Yo to promote the Moto 360. Based on earlier reports, the highly-anticipated smartwatch is going to have the controversial mobile app installed.

Debuting earlier this year, Yo works on both iOS and Android devices. The app's sole function is to allow users to send a simple "Yo" message to friends. A number of smartphone users have already expressed annoyance with the app, which was the subject of ridicule in a recent report by BGR.

UPDATE: The contest has expired as of Aug. 28, 3 PM CST. Congratulations to the lucky winners!

Google Free-Giveaway (Google I/O Participants Only)

This method only applies to those who have attended Google I/O back in June. On Aug. 14, Google announced that it was giving away free Moto 360's to all whom have participated in the tradeshow. Google I/O attendees will need to register their address before Sept. 5, 12am PST.

The offer was made through email to participants only. Google did not say when it will ship out the Moto 360. A copy of this email has been posted on Droid Life.
