Motorola has announced late last night that the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system update is now rolling out for the second generation Moto G in the U.S.

"#Lollipop is rolling out in phases to #MotoG (2nd Gen) in US & #MotoG (1st & 2nd Gen) in India," the message stated on Motorola's Google+ and Twitter pages. "Look for the notification on your device to update!"

Just last week, we got word from Motorola software engineer Luciano Carvalho that the latest Android update would be coming to Motorola devices in the form of version 5.0.2, skipping right over the 5.0 and 5.0.1 increments. That means that this more recent update for second generation Moto G users is the most current and up-to-date for the mobile OS until the rumored Android 5.1 drops sometime soon.

"That's a limited soak test roll out for some of our products in different regions of the world," Carvalho said last week in reference to Android 5.0.2 coming to several Motorola devices. "The update will be pushed to a wider audience if no critical showstoppers are found by users who already received it."

This statement goes right along with Motorola's words about the second generation Moto G's patch being available in phases. So if you have yet to receive the update for your own Moto G 2014 phone, it should be coming soon.

But despite the mention of only the U.S. and India in the social media message, users on Reddit are describing the availability of the update in Brazil, parts of Europe, and other spots around the world as an over-the-air (OTA) update.

A thread has been started over at the XDA developers forum describing the most common bugs that users have been experiencing so far since the update. These include everything from animation and user interface lag to excessive battery drain in wi-fi mode to screen flickering on lowest brightness setting. The good news is that many users are helping each other out with fixes as the bugs are reported.

The Moto G 2014 (second generation) was released on September 5, 2014 as the successor to the original low-cost Moto G from the previous year. Because of its inexpensive price tag and still impressive specs, the Moto G became a big hit worldwide, especially in tech-centric areas that have a lower cost of living, like parts of Asia and India.

The phone features a 5-inch screen with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB DDR3 RAM, 8 or 16 GB storage, and a 8-megapixel rear camera. The 2,070 mAh battery is a main feature as many reviewers admired its ability to truly be an "all-day" battery.

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop will bring the new Material Design user interface, improved battery life, reworked notifications, and more to Moto G users. If you didn't receive the OTA notification yet, or think you missed it, you can head over to Settings>About Phone>System Updates from within your phone to check for yourself.
